Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 30: "Traffic cones are placed on main roads of the city in order for the traffic to move smoothly. However, some drivers are deliberately driving on them and damaging the cones. Five bus drivers were arrested on Wednesday, June 27 for the same reason. We will investigate the CCTV footage throughout the city and take action against all the erring drivers," said, T R Suresh, police commissioner of Mangaluru.

The police commissioner was replying to the petitions of the general public in the 'Police Phone-in' programme that was held in his office on Friday, June 29.
He said that two private and three KSRTC buses have been confiscated in this regard and cases have been registered against the drivers of these buses who drove the vehicles on the traffic cones near Jyoti Junction.

A citizen from Kulai congratulated the police department for their swift action on the erring bus drivers and asked them to continue their operation.

Paid parking zones identified

A caller from Kottara Chowki in the city requested the commissioner to systematically implement the paid parking system in the city to ease the vehicle parking issue. The commissioner said that paid parking zones are already identified and the information is relayed to the commissioner of MCC. This has to be sanctioned by the MCC. The same will be brought to the notice of the MCC commissioner once again.

One of the citizens highlighted the absence of officials in the 'Gram Sabha' meetings and requested the commissioner to send the concerned officials to such meetings and also inform the public about the facilities that are available under various government programmes.

Traffic chaos at Thokkottu junction was brought to the notice of the commissioner. One of the petitioners said that the rainwater is entering houses and plots due to no drainage system in Zilla panchayat roads.

Children more than capacity transported in school vehicles

A lady from Mulki brought the issue of transportation of school children in auto rickshaws and vans more than the capacity mentioned of the vehicle. The commissioner instructed the concerned inspectors to investigate the complaint.

A person questioned the road divider that is put in front of Karangalpady market. The commissioner replied by saying that there is no parking facility in front of the said market and that is why the divider is implemented.

A civilian from Maryhill complained that the private bus drivers are parking the vehicles on the road itself, though there are bays meant for parking their buses. The concerned person also highlighted that private buses wait for a long time at KPT Circle.

Abolish the private bus mafia and see the difference. The police should not allow the buses to stop from Govt. College at Hampankatta till light house hill. Vehicles should not be allowed to park on the footpath and builders using the footpath for their building purpose right now we have a good example opposite Athen hospital on Mother Theresa road Falnir. The builder is using the footpath causing inconvenience to the pedestrian s. Authorities should look into it.

It is gratifying to note that Police Commissioner Mr. Suresh and his staff are constantly holding meetings taking into account the difficulties experienced by the public.

Accidents can certainly be avoided if the drivers of vehicles strictly observe rules and regulations prescribed by law.

It is expedient that the fines are increased considerably . In U.S.A. fines for breaking rules are in the region of Rs.9,000/-

Instead of rubbers cones it is better to put iron rod cones then it will be nice . No body will damage it . If they hit means their Vehicle will get damage.
