Mangaluru, Jun 30: District Working Journalists Association in association with State Forest department, Mangaluru zone, celebrated Vanamahostava at press club premises here on Saturday, June 30.

Senior journalist from Vijaya Karnataka, Sathyavathi planted a sapling and stressed on the need to plant more saplings and to conserve forest. She said, “Journalists are always more concerned about nature. It always reflects in their reports and stories. Here in Mangaluru, they are not only reporting the exploitation and attacks on nature, but also observing programmes like Vanamahostava becoming a role model to others. Through this we are saying that only writings or speeches cannot save the nature, but we should do our bit.”

P Shridhar, forest officer, Mangaluru zone said, “Majority of the time we hear that there is no space for plantation. We have to make our mind up for anything. Without nature, no one can survive on earth. So every individual should think about his existence on this planet. We should love nature and take care of it.

“This year, Forest department Mangaluru zone has a target of planting 15,000 saplings. In the city limits, we will plant 2,700 saplings. Many NGOs are also working with us on this mission. Conserving forests and planting saplings is the need of the hour as they help us in many ways like rain and keeping the temperature under control,” he said.
