Udupi: Adani UPCL distributes kits worth Rs 30.41 lac among government school students

Udupi, Jun 30: Adani Group’s UPCL, which has two units of 600 MW thermal power plants at Yellur village, in hands with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, distributed school kits to the students studying in government/government aided schools located in the UPCL plant vicinity recently. In the first phase, company’s joint president Kishore Alva distributed kits worth Rs 30.41 lac to totally 3,242 students covering 36 schools.

St Francis Higher Primary School, Government High School, Mudarangadi, SVCS Higher Primary School, Yellur, Kemmendelu Higher Primary School, Shree Durga Devi Higher Primary School, Paniyuru, Government Higher Primary School, Belapu, Government United High School, Government Higher Primary School, Kutyaru, Padukalatturu High School, Poorna Prajna High School, Admar, Hindu Higher Primary School, Admar, Government Primary School, Nandikuru, Government Higher Primary School in Kanchinadka, Government Primary School in Padebettu, SBVP Higher Primary School, Ganapati High School, Government Model Primary School, Government High School, Urdu Higher Primary School in Padubidri, Government Model Higher Primary School, Yermal, Government United High School, Government School in Tenka panchayat, Government High School in Bada, Saraswati Vidya Mandir Higher Primary School, CSI United High School, UBMC Higher Primary School, Muloor, Government Higher Primary School, Kapu, Government Higher Primary School in Polipu Panchayat are the schools which are benefitted under the education kits distribution programme.

Distributing the education kits comprising of note books, geometry box, bag and umbrella, Kishore Alva informed that UPCL, after taking over by Adani Group, Adani Foundation is distributing quality school kits worth Rs 70 lac every year to the government school students for the last 3 years. “Students are being motivated with the education kits and I am happy to note that the students’ strength is being increased in few of the Government Schools,” he said.

Alva further said that Adani Foundation is playing a vital role in the field of education involving activities like education kits distribution, scholarship distribution to meritorious students, education help for the meritorious students from the financially weaker section, distribution of laptop to the students for higher education, development of infrastructure facilities to government schools, and construction of toilets for girl students. “In addition to these activities, Adani Foundation is also conducting UDAAN programme, where in students are being given opportunity to visit UPCL plant and understand the process of power plant operation benefitting their academic. Adani Foundation has so far motivated more than 1 lac students under UDAAN programme,” he said.

Alva also informed that every year Adani UPCL is incurring a cost of Rs 10 crore under CSR for village development works in and around UPCL plant and nearly 25 to 30% is towards education.

During the education kits’ distribution programme, the company’s associate general manager Girish Navada, senior manager Ravi R Jere, and executives from Adani Foundation Sukesh Suvarna, Vineet Anchan, and Anudeep Poojary were present.
