Kasargod, Jun 30: The food safety officials on Saturday June 30 raided a godown in the outskirts of Kasargod town and seized 5,000 litres of fake coconut oil.
The flash raid was led by food safety assistant commissioner C A Janardhana and team and the oil was seized from the warehouse belonging to Bekradha Mohammed Nawaz.
The coconut oil which was earlier sold under the brand name Palakkad Afiya Coconut Oil was banned a year ago by the food safety department due to the presence of adulterants. However, now the same oil was repackaged as Kera Classic Agmark 'certified product' and sold in the market.
The food safety department conducted the raid based on a tip-off. During the raid they found 5,000 litres of oil packaged in 2-litre packs. The packets have been sent to the laboratory for testing.
A few days back, when a few shops in Kasargod were raided the packets containing fake oil was found. The officials then started investigation. After the lab reports confirm the oil is fake, action will be taken against the godwon owner, officials told media.
