Puttur: Students vow to keep away from social media

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur

Puttur, Jul 10: Setting a unique precedence, students of a Puttur based PU College have voluntarily pledged in their parents name to keep away from social media. The special oath ceremony was organised by students of Ambika PU College, who promised to not use social media, while pursuing their studies. Most students are of the opinion that social media distracts them from studies, motivates them to take shortcuts in life and also lures youth in Love Jihad and terrorism.

“We hope that our initiative set a trend in the society and among other youth. Most of the social media applications are being misused and make youth fall prey to bad habits. It is a medium used by Love Jihad and terrorists. Photographs of the youth are misused and many those who are addicted to social media are more bothered about likes and comments than studies. Hence, we students collectively decided to keep away from this medium,” says one of the students studying in the institution.

Meanwhile, the school administration claims that they have no role to play in the ceremony and the students have done it on their own accord. Head of Ambika Institutions Subrahmanya Nattoja said that students requested if they can hold an oath programme and after hearing their views, the management decided to allow them to organise it on their own.

In india people wowe for many things.but the reality is not known. Beef ban but most beef consumed and leather exported by india. Social media ban by few but highest number of cell phones are sold in india. Blames western nations for everything g but use western styles Evan in the villages. I am not blaming the students in the picture. God bless them if they stay away from digital world. It is good for them. Without social media and computers you will never connect to your studies and improve knowledge.

Social media has its own pro and pons. But in our nation aspiring for 'Digital India' it is used as abusive tool.
Nation like Germany has severe penalty for social media sites for not abiding to the rules. But in our India were we are forced to chant 'Bharat Mata ki jai' to prove our nationalism here her daughters are threatened with rape, molestation and murder.
Unfortunately Prime Minister of this nation became 'Thrones of trolls' who likes the abusive followers who in turn are 'Proud to be followed by the Modiji'.

If this young generation is remains little alert and follows the strict protocol and protected by the law, social media indeed a effective tool of communication.

I regret to say that in my India it has become tool of destruction. False alarm of 'child trafficking' and 'lynching is one perfect example.
    Jai hind

Social media has become a double edge sword like someone mentioned. While in an utopian world, it's great to have a place where you login after work/school to catchup with friends and make new friends etc. But in our real world it's either become a hub of fake news, or a place where perverts hangout, a place where trolls, abuses are spewed and whatever few good people use it for get misjudged for being any of the above. Orkut came and went, Myspace came and went, Facebook/twitter came and will go.

I find this funny. The person who is behind this gimmick isn't aware that they are the one's who has been spending crorea on social media.
Also I find something astonishing students speaking about Love Jihad and Terrorism. the sole reason to avoid Social Media.Wow. Cherry on top someone says they wish to avoid since it's used by Terrorist and Love Jihad. By that sense our Government should stop utilizing Social Media which is their lifeline. I would have agreed if the reason was fake news, rumours, movies, porn etc.
Good education and upbringing solves all these issues and not by banning something. One should be responsible to one's own character and be brave enough to not fall to such things by pure will power.
Why only Social Media? Don't these same youths gets influenced by Smoking, Alcohol, Theatres, Pubs amd so on? No. Because they know and can decide what is good for them. Getting away from Love Jihad is simple, block the person - just a click all that it takes.
I find all these gimmicks leaning towards Politics.
My advise to these kids is, stop getting influenced by the one's who are influencing you.

Social Media, a knife, a gun have 2 sides to them.
One helps while if addicted can distract, a gun can safeguard a person or a nation & can take away lives if not used by sane person. A knife can prepare tasty curry & can snuff out a life too.
It is in the hands of the user, Use it judiciously & learn to live without it for a few days to test if you are addicted. I have seen 2 wheeler riders checking their phones every 10 meters on highways & blame others if they meet with accidents.
Playing games is more addictive & a great distraction for today's students. As the phones become Smarter our Kids are becoming less smarter, they play in groups & play against each other & a competition among them is causing more addiction.
Self Control is better than shunning any devices or media is a solution.

Waste of Time. Vows don't work in India. Promises are never fulfilled including repaying bank debt. Stop this nonsense and inculcate in them the values of cleanliness, the values of social media, values of internet, the values of TV and many other issues. I have seen water harvesting nothing is achieved and many other issues.

Social media is not bad in itself. It is a great blessing in the twenty first century. Instead of avoiding social media teach the children how to use social media responsibly. If you want to become smart use social media. Taking oath will not sever the purpose.
