Pokhara, Sep 4: Two Indian nationals were killed and two others injured after a car plunged into Phewa Lake in Nepal’s Pokhara early Friday, police said.

The car, bearing a Bihar registration number, fell into the lake near the Gaurichautara bend in Pokhara-18 at around 4:50 am. Police said the driver lost control while travelling from Sedi towards the lakeside.

One of the deceased was identified as 26-year-old Navadeep Kumar Yadav from Raxaul in Bihar’s East Champaran district. The identity of the second deceased was yet to be confirmed.

The two injured, identified as 27-year-old Anmol Kumar Yadav and 33-year-old Suraj Yadav, both from Raxaul, were rescued from the vehicle and shifted to Gandaki Medical College. Their condition was reported to be stable.

Around two dozen security personnel were mobilised for the rescue operation following the accident. The vehicle was later pulled out of the lake with the help of a crane and taken to the Baidam Ward Police Office.

The two deceased were retrieved unconscious from the water and taken to Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, where doctors declared them dead.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident, according to local reports.
