Mumbai, Oct 3: The Borivli Dahisar Jagruk Nagarik Manch (BDJNM) took out a peace march under the banner of ‘Citizens Action for Peace’, on Thursday October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
The march was against violence in all forms including the recent increased terrorist activities in the nation and attacks on minorities. Thousands of people from all religions gathered together in the march that began from the grounds at St Francis D’Assisi, and passed through the streets of Borivli concluding at IC Colony grounds.
Boys and girls carried hoardings with peace messages and walked wearing a Gandhi cap and white uniforms. Elias Pinto, treasurer, BDJNM, anchored the programme. The crowd took an oath promising to combat violence through peaceful means.
Willy Shirshak, president, of BDJNM, secretary D K Kossambe, municipal corporator Ashok Shah, Fr Franklin Mathias, Fr Nelson Saldanha, Fr Suren Abreo, Fr Benar, Canara Konkani Association president George D’Souza, Yoginagar residence welfare association president Shirodkar, noted educationist A E Jaffrey, noted senior citizen Joe Fernandes, several religious leaders, thinkers, and activists also took part in the peace march.
