DLF seeks cancellation of controversial 'Bay View' project in Goa

Panaji, Jul 5: In a surprise move, DLF, India’s largest listed real estate company, has approached Goa's Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) seeking cancellation of registration for its high-profile and controversial Rs 450 crore 'Bay View' project atop the scenic Reis Magos hill.

The application was jointly filed by M/s DLF Exclusive Floors Pvt Ltd and Bhamini Real Estate Developers Pvt Ltd. In response, Goa RERA has issued a public notice inviting objections from any aggrieved parties within 15 days.

The project, which proposed the construction of 84 luxury villas over 28,474 square metres, faced strong opposition from local residents and environmental groups over alleged illegal hill cutting and destruction of green cover. The protests had led Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane to announce a review of the project’s approvals.

Though DLF has not officially commented on its reasons, a senior RERA official suggested that the company may be looking to revise its plans before seeking re-registration. “They could be planning to resubmit modified plans after obtaining fresh approvals from the North Goa PDA and TCP department,” the official said.

Approved earlier by both the NGPDA and the TCP, the scale and environmental impact of the Bay View project had sparked widespread concern in the quiet village of Reis Magos overlooking the Mandovi river.
