Mangaluru, Jul 24: Minister for women and child development Jayamala has assured to pay additional Rs 10 lac for the development of academies in the district.
Addressing media here on Monday, July 23, Jayamala said, "Earlier we were providing Rs 1 crore for the academies. This time we have decided to pay additional Rs 10 lac. These academies are doing tremendous work and still lot more has to be done. It would be challenging to do a survey on the good work done by the academies. Many good works done by the academies are not documented. Hence, the documentation process will start to encourage the good work, keep a permanent record and inspire further research,” she said.
“There is a need to encourage collection of antiques and articrafts related to Tulu culture. Tulu Academy should take responsibility of it and encourage private organizations, which collect these antique articles. We will hold discussions with all the academies and ask about their demands and will fulfil them accordingly,” she added.
She further said, "The coalition government has given me opportunity and I thank all the senior leaders. I have deep concern towards women and children and am eager to do good work for my department and bring positive changes.”
"Congress has successfully completed 5 years term in Karnataka and introduced myriad schemes like never before, without any black spot in its 5 year administration. Congress party continued to do good work for the people. We are prepared and confident that we will come back to power again,” she said.
Responding to a query on the efforts for the inclusion of Tulu language in 8th schedule, Jayamala said, "I am committed to this cause. Our department has taken up several works on the inclusion of Tulu language in 8th schedule. We will work more in this regard,”
“We lack funds for the construction of separate building for Beary and Konkani Academies. I will definitely work to make the dream a reality,” she assured.
When asked about closure of Kannada medium schools, Jayamala said, "I do not say that we do not need English medium. At the same time we should learn Kannada. Parents have a mindset that English medium schools help their children to achieve things. I want to tell to those parents that, in Karnataka, the majority achievers and eminent thinkers have come from Kannada school background,”
Former minister Ramanath Rai, Ex MLA Abhayachandra Jain, district Congress president Harish Kumar and others were present.
