Mangalore, Oct 14: Managing administrator of Anandashram located at Kanhangad near Kasargod here, Saccidananda Swamiji (89) left for the heavenly abode on the night of Sunday October 12, at about 8.15 pm. He had been ill since the last three years.

Swami Ramadas, who had founded Anandashram jointly with Mother Krishnabai in the year 1931, introduced the Swamiji to the spiritual path about six decades back. After the death of Mother Krishnabai, Saccidananda Swamiji had taken over total responsibility of the Ashram, which is visited by tourists all through the day. The Ashram has been recognized as a centre of spirituality, where the universal love is preached and where chanting of Lord Rama's name goes on throughout the day. The Swamiji, apart from guiding social service and educational programmes of the Ashram, also used to dispense homoeopathic medicines to the needy.

After the Swamiji fell ill, his disciple Muktanananda Swami had taken over the responsibility of running the Ashram and trusts associated with it.

The Swamiji was hailed as the harbinger of spirituality and had dedicated his life for the religious renaissance. Thousands of people rushed to Anandashram to pay their last respects to the Swamiji, upon his demise.
