Kundapur, Aug 21: “The problem of waste disposal that used to be confined to cities alone in the past has also started to bother the villages now. He was speaking to media persons after visiting Vandse village here, where he inspected solid waste and effluents management unit and obtaining details of the unit on Monday, August 20.

Udupi: Minister Byre Gowda emphasizes need to utilize social media's potential

Udupi, Aug 21: The result our party got in the assembly election from coastal districts of Karnataka was unexpected. Now the formation and running of coalition government has become indispensable. The earlier Congress government led by Siddaramaiah had no weak points or adversities. But widespread, aggressive, malicious, baseless propaganda made us to lose all the seats we held here, noted state minister, Krishna Byre Gowda, speaking at the Congress Bhavan here on Monday August 20.

"Congress has developed public contacts everywhere but failed to protect its own interests. The opposition party misled and confused the minds, and on this bases, also registered victories. Still, Congress succeeded in bagging a large number of seats even though there was false publicity. When we analyze the scenario in the country as whole, it is inevitable to have coalition government in the state. But under this arrangement, we will have less freedom as compared to the past. We should accept this situation as a challenge. Though we had clean government, we failed to come back to power," Gowda pointed out.

"We should never overlook the importance o grass root-level politics. Such challenges are very common in politics. There is lack of publicity. Congress is lagging behind in educating the people about the achievements of Congress government. We failed in giving fitting response to accusations of the opposition and building confidence among public about the party. Due to the communication gap, people were easily made to believe the misinterpreted and falsified facts of the opposition," he added.

The minister lamented the fact that the people in general did not properly recognize the achievements of the previous government. "Now-a-days, people are active in social media. Congress activists must improve their efficiency in using those social medias for gaining mileage and publicity, and to give fitting reply to allegations or charges made against us by the opposition party. This will apply to the state Congress in general and and coastal districts in particular," he explained.

He said that when watching developments in the country's politics, one can find changes happening at a fast pace. An esteemed organization conducted survey about upcoming Loka Sabha election. It says Congress will get clear majority in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, he stated.

The minister expressed resentment at the fact that Congress activists do not have enough awareness of good work and development initiatives of Congress-led government. "When there is bad news, we start to scroll the social media. It is a sign of changing scenario. But we did not try to give publicity to things we did and our achievements," he observed.

BJP failed to get LS seats in recent years

Changes have been happening at the national level. So, Congress has to take up a firm decision of defeating BJP in upcoming election, and once this is done, it will help to building the future of our party, said Krishna Byre Gowda.

Shivashankar Reddy, minister for Agriculture, Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLA from here, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA Kaup, Janardan Tonse, president, district Congress Udupi, Narasimha Murthy, president, Urban development authority, Prakhyath Shetty, vice president, district Congress, Krishnaraj Saralaya, senior Congress leader, Satish Amin Padukere, president, block Congress and others were present.
