Mangaluru: Thrashing man on suspicion of being child kidnapper - six held

Mangaluru, Aug 21: Police personnel belonging to Bajpe police station here, on Monday August 20, arrested six persons, who have been accused of thrashing a person, suspecting him to be involved with kidnapping of children.

Those arrested in the case are Sheikh Rizwan (35), Ajmal Khan (43), Muhammed Imran (42), Muhammed Irfan (38), Shah Nawaz Dharmasthala (19) and Muhammed Imthiaz (42) from Gurukambala village.

Reports said that Hamza (63) from Kankanady in the city, along with his friend, was seeking donations by way of house to house visits in Gurukambala on Sunday for funding the marriage expenses of his friend's sister and also on the occasion of Bakrid. A crowd, which suspected him to be a member of a gang involved with theft of children, tethered him to a pole and beat him up. The police, who got information, admitted the victim into Wenlock Hospital here and sent him home after the treatment.

Hamza said that a gang of 40 bound him to a pole and mercilessly beat him up, suspecting him to be involved with child trafficking. He said that the crowd which found that he had five toffees in his pocket, suspected him to be a kidnapper of children. "My friend, who was with me, ran away from there out of fear. This infuriated the mob further. The gang which attacked me, insisted that he should be brought back to the spot," he alleged.

A case in this regard was registered in Bajpe police station.

It is learnt that the body pain of Hamza aggravated on Monday and he was admitted into a private hospital here for treatment.
