Udupi, Oct 22: Two women and three men, suspected to be members of a naxal group, threatened the occupants of two houses located near Ashirvad, on Malpe Road and in Shanti Vana, Puttur village, on Tuesday October 21.

They arrived in a black Tata  Esteem car and told the occupants to vacate their houses within two weeks. The families of electrician Suresh and his relative auto driver Sadashiv are the ones who were threatened.
 
According to a member of one of the families, the group old thethat there were 11 of them and they needed accommodation in two weeks time. From bags left behind by the group at one of the houses a handout of a Hindi advertisement, and a few chits were recovered. The families were told they would be killed if the incident was reported to the police. 

The chits are in a dialect of Kannada, prevalent in Kundapur, thus, lending strength to the naxal theory. A bag left behind by the group was taken into police custody by town sub-inspector Maruti Nayak.  The incident has caused anxiety among the locals.
