Puttur, Sep 14: "The divisional level KSRTC Transport Adalat had been held here last month. It was presided by the local MLA. But certain taluk panchayat members were negligently treated on purpose by not inviting them to the progrmme," alleged several members of the taluk panchayat (TP) here at the general session of the body on Tuesday. They took the manager of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), who was present, to task and demanded for a resolution to be passed condemning the incident.

The meeting was presided by TP president, Bhavani Chidanand. The members said that MLA, Sanjeeva Matandoor, had presided over the Transport Adalat held in the taluk panchayat premises. TP members, Usha Anchan, Asha Laxman, K T Valsamma, Fazal Kadaba and Fauzia Nettanige Mundoor expressed resentment, claiming that TP members from Nelyady and Kadaba areas had been overlooked by not inviting them. Expressing ire at KSRTC for treating them shabbily, they said they wanted to speak about the problems of the people and that they were not bothered about their personal problems. They asserted that a resolution condemning KSRTC should be passed. Several members joined hands in insisting that KSRTC was to blame for this faux pas.

These discussions dragged on for about 45 minutes at the end of which a suggestion was given by Saja Radhakrishna Alva to hold another meeting with KSRTC officials to find solutions to problems on transport.

The meeting discussed the issue of distributing raw eggs to patients in the government hospital here. Member, Usha Anchan, spoke about lack of hygiene in labour ward of the hospital. Medical officer of the hospitql, Dr Veena, admitted that the staff had erred in not maintaining the ward and that memos had been issued. She assured to give importance to cleanliness and hygiene. When member, Mukund Gowda Bajathur, raised the issue of problems faced by people wanting to avail dialysis faciliy, Dr Veena said that the hospital has only three dialysis machines and therefore, only nine persons per day could be served. As 40 people have already registered, people coming for dialysis are kept on waiting list. She said there is space in the hospital but staff and machinery shortage are giving rise to problems. It was decided to pass a resolution to ourge the government to provide additional dialysis machines and staff so that patients are not inconvenienced, was taken.

Taluk panchayat vice president, Rajeshwari, zilla panchayat education and health standing committee chairperson, Anita Hemanath Shetty, tahsildar, Ananth Shankar, Kadaba tahsildar, John Prakash, and taluk panchayat executive officer, Jagadish, were present.
