Bengaluru, Sep 16: An arrested accused, who had been led to the spot of crime for identification and inquest tried to escape by suddenly attacking a police constable.  The police subdued him by firing at his leg. The incident happened at Bannerghatta sanctuary on Saturday September 15.

Sharavana Kumar alias Mental Viji alias Viji, the accused in question, has been charged with attacking two lovers who had visited Bannerghatta on September 11, and cutting off a hand of the male. Viji was arrested for the crime. On Saturday, Viji was led to the spot to complete procedures when he attacked police constable, identified as Siddalingaiah. He covered Siddalingaiah's neck with his two handcuffs in an attempt to kill him and escape from the spot.

At this, the police issued him warning and then fired in the air. As Viji continued his grip on Siddalingaiah, deputy superintendent of police, S K Umesh, fired at the accused's leg. Injured Viji was then admitted into Victoria Hospital for treatment, the policemen stated.

In this particular incident, a lady constable had hired Viji to teach her paramour, Raveesh, a lesson. The lady constable, Nagalaxmi, working in V V Puram police station here, who is married, had illicit relationship with Raveesh. Of late, Raveesh was bringing pressure on her to divorce her husband and marry him. He had shown her video footages of their sexual life to pressurize her to act soon.  Feeling threatened and victimized, Nagalaxmi had hired Viji to cut off the hand of Raveesh. As per the plan, she had brought her lover to Bannerghatta on September 11. Viji had attacked Raveesh all of a sudden and escaped after cutting a hand of his. The police, who posed probing questions to Nagalaxmi based on suspicion, came to know of the truth.
