Nirmala defends India celebrating surgical strike

Bengaluru, Sep 30 (IANS): Denying that the government was politicising the Army's surgical strike inside Pakistan two years ago, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said it was being celebrated as a festival to show that India won't take any attack on its troops lying down.

"The 'Parakram Parv' is being celebrated in over 50 cities across the country to show that we are not going to accept a blatant cowardly act of a neighbour getting into our Army base and killing soldiers who were resting and unarmed," Sitharaman told reporters here.

Giving the backdrop of the fest over the surgical strike on the intervening night of September 28-29, 2016, Sitharaman said it was necessary for the Army to hit the terrorist launch pads of the enemy in their territory.

"Though there have been quite a few infiltrations over the past few years and actions were taken to eliminate the intruders, it was a call of the Army with political backing to strike at the terrorist launch pads of our enemies," she recalled.

Considered the deadliest attack on Indian security forces, 17 soldiers were killed by four heavily armed militants in the Army's base camp near Uri town in northwest Kashmir on September 18.

"As the terror attack happened inside the base on unarmed soldiers, it was necessary for the Army to strike at the enemy in its territory," she asserted.

Claiming that people in large numbers had come to mark the event and show solidarity with the armed forces, the Minister said if anyone raised questions about the celebration, she would ask if it was something to be ashamed of.

Never in the History of Independent India have such Military actions used to derive political gains like the BJP. Holding on to straws that will salvage their sinking fortunes.

India splitting Pakistan into two separate countries in 1971 was a million-times more earth-shattering event than a tiny little surgical strike.

Indira Gandhi demonstrated the courage that the Gujju-bhai can only dream of.

It is unfortunate that the current dispensation does not want people to celebrate the 1971 event.

    Surgical or magical...
It was a duty tpwards nation...
    Duty is blessed not celebrated...
Any govt would have cooperated with armed forces to achieve safety of the nation...
Why make it a individual pride...???
When any tension occurs on the borders or vulnerable high places...
    Indians bleed and Indians defend...
Irrespective of cast, creed or religion...

after independence India fought 5 wars
    hyderabad war 1948
    portugese war 1961
    sino indian war 1965
    indo pak war 1971
    kargil war 1999
no were did the politicians of that time used these for political mileage.
we are proud of our army and there is no doubt they can and will fight to their teeth for the sake of the country, instead of appreciating their bravery this so called nationalist politicians are using to deviate the real issues and in the name of surgical strike don't know how long will they go

Pak chopper violates Indian airspace along Line of Control, Defence Minsiter Nirmala Sithraman and BJP unit of Mangalore are celebrating surgical strike.

When Chinese army entered in Arunachal Pradesh Dokhlam. Sithraman seen video clips teaching 'Namste' to Chinese.

More than 500% increase in cross border attack from multiple front. BJP CM in Tripura is in hit list of Maynamar drug lords. Chinese encroached Indian sovereign land Himachal, Arunchal Pradesh and Uttara Khand.

Surgical strike at a times of 'Rafale scam' is nothing but BJP's strategy just like CM Yogi 'Taj Mahal' coincides with the Amit Shah son scam.

If RSS political wing BJP really worship 'Bharat Mata' defense minister should reveal the details of Rafale purchase written to the Parliament.

Objective of the 'surgical strikes' was to put an end cross border mischief by the enemy. But in reality, the number of casualties are on the increase. Worse still, as to the veracity of the strikes, a neutral body like UNO, response was 'No firing was observed' . This being the case, what exactly we are celebrating?
