Betis gets 2nd consecutive win with 1-0 defeat of Leganes

Seville (Spain), Oct 1 (IANS): Betis grabbed its second consecutive win, a 1-0 victory over an ultradefensive Leganes at Villamarin stadium, with Loren Moron once again propelling the team into the top five so far this season.

The match on Sunday was utterly dominated by Betis against a Leganes creating little in the way of countering their rivals' offense, but - even so - it took the home squad until the 89th minute to notch the lone goal, reports Efe.

Moron's tally came after a nice cross from Cristian Tello.

"We had the game under control throughout, they played the ball out from the back and I was fortunate once again for the ball to go in," said Moron, who had also scored the winner in last Thursday's match against Girona.

Leganes came into the match with a very lackluster attitude and peformance, but Betis was just the opposite, fresh off its win against Girona and looking for a second consecutive triumph.

To try and secure the victory, Coach Quique Setien -- as he had said he would -- made seven substitutions and kept many of his players in reserve for the European clash on Thursday against Dudelange and then its next La Liga contest against Atletico.

Leganes barely touched the ball all during the contest, and -- for all the lackluster tenor of the match -- succeeded in holding Betis scoreless until the very last moment.

With the win, Betis climbed into fifth place in the Spanish First Division table, on a par in points with Atletico Madrid, with both squads two points in back of Barcelona and Real Madrid and one point behind Sevilla, in third place.
