Karkala, Oct 3: After two large-sized containers collided with each other near Teerthottu bridge within Kadthala gram panchayat limits here, both the vehicles fell across the road. As such, vehicular traffic on this road got stranded the entire day.

The accident happened on Tuesday October 2 morning after the two containers which were moving toward Kadthala got involved in an accident. The container in front suddenly stopped when it was moving ahead after crossing Teerthottu bridge. The driver, in an effort to get going, moved the truck a little backwards at which the container went out of control and dashed against the container that was following the first. Both the containers then tumbled across the road.

The driver of the container that was behind suffered serious injury to his hand and he stands admitted into hospital.

The students and commuters who used this road from and to Ajekar, Kadthala, Kukkuje etc faced lot of problems in reaching their schools and offices. Vehicles took a long detour via Muniyal. In the past, vehicular traffic got blocked frequently because of the earlier bridge which used to go down when water level in the rivulet increased. Recently, a higher ridge has been built there and the past problem stands resolved.

The containers remained in the middle of the road till evening. President of the gram panchayat, Arun Kumar Hegde, then contacted Ajekar police and owners of containers to employ huge cranes to move the containers aside and pave way for the movement of traffic. Traffic began moving again on the road after 7 pm after the containers were cleared.
