Bengaluru: CM might opt to field son instead of wife from Ramanagara

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Oct 3: Hectic political activities are going on in the state for the coming Lok Sabha election. At the same time, the JD(S) is faced with the task of finding a candidate to be fielded from Ramanagara assembly constituency, which has been vacated by chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, after registering victories from two constituencies.

While it is almost certain that the chief minister's wife, Anita Kumaraswamy, will be fielded by the party, it need not come as a surprise if the couple's son, Nikhil, is fielded from Ramanagara constituency. It is said that Anita is keen on giving party ticket to Nikhil so that he can be groomed to be the political heir to his father as and when the time comes. However, reports say that Kumaraswamy wants to give ticket to his wife or some other leader of the party as he feels that it would be too early for his son to take a plunge into electoral politics.

Partners of the coalition government in the state have decided to leave Ramanagara seat to JD(S) and allow Congress to field its candidate from Jamakhandi constituency where too bypoll is being held. Therefore, any JD(S) candidate from this constituency is almost sure to romp home victorious. Therefore some leaders in JD(S) feel that the time is ripe for Nikhil's entry into Vidhana Soudha. But as the parties have agreed to fight from only one of these constituencies, Congress will not field its candidate unless any last minute development happens.

Several district level Congress leaders believe that it is not fair for the leadership of the party to sacrifice the standing of the party in Ramanagara constituency where its candidate had got about 70,000 votes in the recent assembly election There appears to be favourable opinion within Deve Gowda's family for Nikhil's candidature in view of the fact that he will get an opportunity to grow brighter at a time when his own father is the chief minister.

Sources however say that Nikhil is now busy with his plans for Sandalwood movies and his interest lies in entering Lok Sabha in the next election from Mandya constituency.

Sources say that although BJP is interested in fielding C P Yogeshwar as its candidate from Ramanagara constituency, he is not agreeable. Therefore, former president of Kanteerava Studio, Rudresh, may get the party nod. Yogeshwar, in that case, may be fielded as Lok Sabha candidate from Bengaluru rural constituency, it is learnt.
