Kundapur, Oct 3: Educated individuals are frequently seen falling prey to online frauds and end up losing lacs of money. Similarly a MESCOM official from Kundapur lost Rs 10,000 due to online bank fraud.

It is said that the official received a call from an unknown number claiming himself to be a bank official. The caller asked him to give bank details and pin number so that Rs 10,000 could be credited to his account.

The official gave the bank details, but immediately it was discovered that Rs 10,000 was debited from his account.

The official registered a complaint at the police station and called the number which was reportedly switched off. As October 2 was a bank holiday, the victim could not block his ATM pin. Later, he called the toll free number and blocked the ATM pin.

Online frauds have become rampant which has put the cyber crime police on their toes. Despite several warnings from the police department to be aware of such fraudsters, repeatedly educated people are falling prey to online frauds and getting duped.

Earlier when daijiworld did a story on online frauds, Mangaluru City Cyber Crime Inspector Savitra Tej said, "Fraudsters usually prefer weekends to call the victims because of bank holidays. People need to be alert when they receive such calls. They should not share personal details, be it your bank account number, PIN number or OTP number. People need to be careful.”
