Mangaluru: Shiradi Ghat opens for all passenger vehicles

Mangaluru, Oct 3: Shiradi Ghat was open to all the passenger vehicles from Wednesday, October 3.

Shiradi Ghat was closed for vehicular movement after the recent land slide due to heavy rain. Shiradi Ghat is the main link between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, but for last couple of months, this stretch was closed.

There were landslides in 12 places on this road. Eight places are cleared now and police presence is now seen in four dangerous areas of Shiradi Ghat.

Shiradi ghat was opened for light motor vehicles from September 5. All the buses were moving via Charmadi Ghat and KSRTC buses were plying from Kudremukh which used to take 11 hours journey from Mangaluru to Bengaluru against the 8 hours through Shiradi Ghat.

After reviewing the movement of passenger vehicle in Shiradi Ghat, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner will hold discussion with Hassan DC and district police regarding permitting heavy vehicles to ply in this stretch.
