Zhang stuns Kerber to advance to quarterfinals at China Open

Beijing, Oct 4 (IANS): Germany's Angelique Kerber suffered a shock defeat to China's Shuai Zhang on Thursday to crash out of the China Open in Beijing.

Third-seeded Kerber was beaten 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 as the unseeded Zhang delivered the upset of the competition so far, reports Efe news.

The local favourite was superior in every category, hitting more winners, more aces and more breakpoints than three-time grand slam winner Kerber.

Zhang's emphatic victory means she advances to the last eight, where she will face Japan's Naomi Osaka.
