Bengaluru, Nov 2: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday, November 2 has ordered the officials to stop online sale of liquor immediately.

Speaking to reporters, Kumaraswamy said, "The decision was taken by previous government, of which I was not a part of. I have directed the officials to stop online sale of liquor. I have asked officials to submit me the file and will end the matter after reviewing the same."

Sources say that the government planned on selling liquor online as it wanted to generate revenue, especially after Kumaraswamy announced Rs 45,000 crore crop loan waivers. But later, the CM decided to drop the proposal as he faced severed opposition from retailers.

Reacting to the allegation of the BJP that sale of liquor in Shivamogga has increased, the CM said, "The leaders from the BJP are scared after I campaigned in the district. The BJP leaders are trying to lure the voters by distributing liquor.”

Similar to Karnataka, Maharashtra too had earlier announced home-delivery of liquor but had to drop plans after protests.
