Mangaluru, Nov 7: Beltangady MLA Harish Poonja has written to deputy commissioner requesting the DC not to invite him for Tipu Jayanti programme at any cost.

The MLA in the letter wrote that it has come to his notice that the state government has decided to celebrate Tipu Jayanti on state, district and taluk levels on Nov 10. “Tipu was the person who had killed Hindus and Christians. The high court has stated that he was not a freedom fighter. The state government is preparing to celebrate Tipu Jayanti for vote bank politics with false information that Tipu was a freedom fighter. It is a betrayal to the people in the state. Therefore, do not invite me for the programme and do not use my designation in the programme,” he requested.

    Tipu Sultan was one of the few South Indian kings to provide stiff resistance to British imperialism, along with Hyder Ali. He is applauded as a ruler who fought against British colonialism. Similarly, he has been a controversial figure and criticized for his repression of Hindus, Christians, and Mappila Muslims.

    Celebrating Tipu's birthday is nothing to do with religion and not require any criticism. Just go for it eat biriyani and enjoy. BJP wants to make a big issue and show all political parties are against Hindus which is total nonsense. BJP' s most members are the most cunning and backstabbers. BJP will ruin the reality of Hinduism and they made others hate Hindu persons.

    Wat is his designation..this fellow doesn't have any work.simply sitting and critising other party for the sake of getting more votes..if modi would celebrate the tippu jayanthi then these goons r ready to celebrate tippu jayanthi....
