Udupi, Nov 20: The 101st birth anniversary of late Indira Gandhi was observed by Udupi district Congress committee in Congress Bhavan on Monday, November 20.

Social activist and journalist Harsha Kumar Kugve said that the year Indira Gandhi was born was exciting in the world. “Soviet union revolution had spread its influence in the world. Jawaharlal Nehru in his letter to his daughter Indira Gandhi wrote that every student should study. She was attracted to the campaign of Mahatma Gandhi. It appears in the decisions taken by Indira Gandhi. Her political life was difficult. Nationalization, law on land improvement, LIC nationalization and other acts were beneficial to ordinary people.”

“MRTP and Fera acts were important. The economic condition of India would have collapsed if foreign act was not implemented. She has worked for all round development of the country. Protection of one’s religion is being reflected as killing and hating other religions now. Indira Gandhi was the victim of fanatics.”

“Modern generation does not know her sacrifices. Fake historians are explaining heritage now. The minds of people are being poisoned. They cause enmity between Hindu and Muslims. She was loved by poor and farmers as she stressed on agriculture causing revolution in it.

Feroze Gandhi, husband of Indira Gandhi was also a freedom fighter. He changed his name as Feroze Gandhi after getting influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. However his political life is being portrayed as a political conspiracy.”

“The current social network Whatsapp has become like a university. False news is getting spread through it on Jawaharlal Nehru’s love life. Though there were political differences between Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Nehru, there were pure politicians. But there were attempts to portray them as enemies.”

“Evil powers are trying to push the country towards disaster. It is inevitable to preserve tradition, tolerance and secularism,” said Harsha Kumar.

Congress leader M A Gafoor said that the country is going wrong way due to revenge politics. “There is conspiracy to convert lies as truth in our country. There should be no attempts to snatch Indira Gandhi from us. Unwanted things are being filled among people. Our activists should explain the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.”

“Banks born in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are getting merged. People should understand where our economic condition leads to. CBI is losing its freedom. It is necessary to revive the sacrifices of Indira Gandhi to maintain peace and harmony in the country.”

Udupi district congress president Thonse said everybody had criticized emergency by Indira Gandhi. “She was called as Durge by opposition leader Vajapayee. Her decisions influence country politics even now,” he said.

Roshni Olivera, district convener, district Rajiv Gandhi panchayat raj organization, Sathish Ameen Padukere, block congress president, Ashok Kumar Kodavooru, senior leaders Krishnaraj Saralaya and others were present. Harish Kini compered the programme.
