Mangaluru, Nov 26: Pope Francis through his Lavdato Si letter to the world urged people to protect the earth. A movement in this connection in the city was set in motion under the leadership of Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

A sapling was planted at Angelore church to symbolically start the movement.

Parish priest Fr William Menezes who planted the sapling after Sunday mass on November 25 said that natural calamities are occurring due to our negligence in proper use of our environment. “It is necessary to put an end to our greed, protect the environment and stop natural calamities,” he said.
