Portion of building collapses in Azad Maidan in Goregaon; 3 killed, 8 injured


Mumbai, Dec 23 (PTI): A portion of an under-construction building near Azad Maidan in Mumbai’s suburban Goregaon collapsed on Sunday, resulting in the death of at least three people. At least eight persons have been injured in the incident, news agency ANI reported. A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was present at the spot and rescue operations were underway.

The incident occurred when the three-storey Mhada Chawl, situated in Motilal Nagar, suddenly collapsed, news agency PTI reported. Among the deceased was one 22-year-old Ramu who was rushed to a local hospital but was declared "brought dead."

Rescue operations to retrieve the people stuck under the debris were underway. Meanwhile, the injured have been taken to the nearby Siddharth Hospital, PTI reported. The condition of the injured is said to be stable.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
