Bantwal, Jan 6: “I agree that regional language should be given importance. Meanwhile there are discussions in Karnataka if we want English medium education or Kannada medium education. The policy of the government can be clear only when people express their opinions clearly,” said Governor Vajubhai Vala.

Speaking during the programme after inaugurating the upper floor of upgraded Daddalakadu Higher Primary School here, Governor said that the children of those who say that the medium of instruction in Karnataka should be Kannada are studying in English medium.

“The situation is such that those who have money learn in English medium and the poor study in government schools. If that should change, you should give up consenting to everything and urge loudly what you want. The government will, in the end, make the demand of people the Act,” he added.

“Students in villages are ahead in learning technology such as computers. The ancestors of those who do excellent work in Mangaluru had studied in villages. Education is more valuable than all other donations. If we have to show that our country is developed, we should have 100% literacy. Only reading and writing is not education. We should aim for degree and post-graduation. Our intention should be to provide education to all. It is also Indian culture,” he said.

“Gurugovind Singh birth anniversary is approaching. Every Indian should be courageous. May Daddalakadu School rise to university level,” he said. He made the audience utter Bharath Mata Ki Jai thrice.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that Daddalakadu School is an example to those government schools which are on the verge of closure. Vidhana Parishad opposition leader Kota Srinivas Poojary said that 4,000 schools out of 48,000 government schools are facing closure. MLA Rajesh Naik said that protests held for text books and other facilities in the school on the streets are successful as the Governor has arrived to a school.

Durga friends club president Prakash Anchan welcomed and gave an introductory address. Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, Zilla panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu, DDPI Y Shivaramaiah, education officer Shivaprasad, Taluk panchayat members Prabhaker Prabhu, Ganesh Suvarna, Padmavathi and others were present. Purushotham Anchan proposed vote of thanks. Teacher Hilda Fernandes compered the programme.

Being a proud Tuluvite, i admire kannada and prefer my kid to learn the same. However, I do not suggest the govt to implement Kannada medium education. Cmon.. do u really think thats necessary? It should always be considered as a second language to understand, write and know the history. Not necessary every person would live in Karnataka and make a living...its all destiny!..U will realize the importance of English when the kids grow up and face the real world.. I have seen pple struggling to survive in the corporate world.. with due respect to our regional language, I am not in favor of Kannada medium school. I am sure many pple will agree with me.

A well known fact is Prime Minister is very close to you Mr. Governor. Please help to obtain an executive order from PM's office to include TULU Language in the Eighth Schedule as Tulu language is one of the five DRAVIDIAN Languages.
