Satwik-Chirag face Malaysian pair in China Masters semi-final

Shenzhen, Sep 5: Indian men’s doubles stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face Malaysia’s Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong in the semi-final of the China Masters in Shenzhen today.

Satwik and Chirag secured their place in the last four after defeating Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-13, 16-21, 21-18 in the quarter-final on Friday. The win saw the Indian pair reach the China Masters semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time.

Their Malaysian opponents produced a major upset in the quarter-final, defeating Indonesia’s world No. 7 pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-17, 16-21, 21-19.

The victory marked the Malaysian duo’s first-ever appearance in a Super 750 semi-final.

India’s campaign in the singles events, meanwhile, ended in the quarter-finals. Kidambi Srikanth lost to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the men’s singles, while Tanvi Sharma was defeated by Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki in the women’s singles.
