Udupi: Farmers survived in drought situations only due to milk dairies – H D Revanna

Udupi, Jan 30: “Farmers could have peaceful life during four year-long droughts because of milk dairies,” said PWD minister H D Revanna. He was speaking after inaugurating milk dairy with the capacity of 2.5 lac litres in Dakshina Kannada cooperative milk producers’ federation in Uppoor today.

“I will be requesting the government to increase the subsidy from the present five rupees to six rupees. Four and a half lac litre milk is produced in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Scheme for interest free loan through cooperative societies is being prepared. Out of 70 lac litres milk produced in Karnataka, forty thousand litres gets sold. As thirty thousand litre goes for conversion, dairies are incurring loss. The cooperative sector in the two districts performs well,” he said.



Dakshina Kannada milk producers’ federation president Raviraj Hegde gave an introductory speech and said that he will be requesting the government to start an Ice cream unit in Udupi. Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje said that attempts should be made to block milk coming from other states.
