Udupi, Jan 23: A Russian couple solemnized their marriage as per Hindu tradition at Pilarukana Sri Mahalingeshwar temple, near Belman here, on Friday January 23.

Moscow-based 29- year-old fitness centre employee Irin and 35-year-old vice-president of a political party, Trescheu Kowstantin, were married by temple priest Shreesha Acharya, in the presence of their friends and relatives.

Both Irin and Trescheu had come to Dr Raviraj Bhandary’s Kashyapa Ayurveda Yoga and Panchakarma Centre, a year ago.  Dr Raviraj Bhandary and family arranged for their traditional Indian wedding. The couple took up the Indian names of Vrandadevi and Keshidamandas.

Kaup block BJP president Ravindra Shetty, local leaders Shankar Kundar and Dinesh, and several media persons were present on the occasion.

Temple priests Srinivas Bhat and Arun assisted the chief priest during the ceremony.

Vrandadevi and Keshidamanadas, speaking to media persons, said that their counterparts in Russia had acknowledged the benefits of Panchakarma and Indian culture.

I truely agree with Ronald's comment. If a Hindu had married in a church what would have been the consequences? Now in Independent India it looks like there is no freedom for minority. One state is fighting with the other state or inside the state there are fights between religions, will there be peace? May God bless India and Indians.

Looks great but if its just only follow the tradition of marriage, it does not make any sense. How the couple behave after marriage is important. Just marry to divorce after one month will really insult our tradition.

One can term this as conversion - it it not!! But i think people should be given will and freedom to choose what they want.

Mr Ronald, There is a difference between propagation and self learning. In this case it was self interest..as in the article "Both Irin and Trescheu had come to Dr Raviraj Bhandary’s Kashyapa Ayurveda Yoga and Panchakarma Centre, a year ago"

Here is an example of a couple's free will. There is obviously nothing "forced" about their adopting Hinduism or their marriage.
