Mangalore, Jan 24:
Praveen Kumar Shetty, president, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, on Saturday January 24 urged the government to arrest Shiva Sena chief Bal Thackeray and the activists of Maharastra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) following the recent clash on the Karnataka and Maharashtra border issue.

Addressing media persons at the Balabhavana , he alleged that activists of MES are resorting to goondaism against Kannadigas in the Marathi-dominated border districts of the state. Bal Thackeray has been supporting perpetration of violence in that region, said Praveen Shetty.

“Struggle in the name of language should be honest. Damaging any property belonging to either of the states cannot be called a ‘movement’. We fight for Kannada language through non-violence”, he said.

Saying that the Vedike would undertake a movement to merge Kasargod district with the state, he urged the government to employ Kannadigas in railway stations and airports and to provide hundred per cent reservation in shopping establishments of the same.

Praveen Shetty added that the government should allow the hoisting of a state flag in municipality buildings in the state.

State organizing secretary Santhosh Kumar Shetty said that the Vedike would fight to employ all Kannadiga personnel in the Nandikoor Thermal Power Project. In reply to a question, he said that the plant cannot be stopped. Therefore, KRV is left with only the option of fighting to fill all vacancies in the company with Kannadigas.

Earlier, the activists of the Vedike burnt an effigy of Bal Thackeray in front of the DC office. They also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through district commissioner V Ponnuraj demanding a full-fledged passport office and day train service between Mangalore and Bangalore.

Prasanna, Rajesh Kundar, George, and Annaiah Kulal, were present at the press meet.

While everyone has a right to express their opinion using the fundamental right of freedom of speech and peaceful protests, this act of burning a dummy seems like a sham. Such regionalism divides us, and people conducting these seem to be very eager for power. Unfortunately for these power mongers, people of Karnataka are smarter and see through these and will soon learn to ignore.

This is not what we want when India and the whole world is going through an economic depression. If they are really serious for providing livelihood potential for the people of Karnataka, they should strive to create opportunities by entrepreneurship, volunteerism and other forms of public service. I hope that the people of Karnataka ignore and condemn these power mongers and focus their energies on pursuing education, tolerance and understanding.

This is not the love for the language but for power. There was nothing in Karnataka specially in Mangalore. Only landlords were flourishing. People of the state have gone to different places and have earned a few bucks and some of them have settled there. This type of behavior will instigate people to go for riots. Our people from the state will be driven beaten elsewhere. If you want votes do some social work for the benefit of all the public. This is just setting fire to our own house. Innocent people will bear the consequences.

It is getting tougher for many people to make ends meet. Many young people do not find jobs nor decent living. These senseless people make living a normal life harder and harder. Do these people have normal life to live or is this all there is to them creating enemity, harrassment and boosting hatred.

Just few days back, there was anti-terrorist parade and gathering in town. This parade created disruption of traffic, operation of commerce and normal life. Isn't it what Terrorists wanted to do-disruption of normal life and commerce. So,We fed them what they needed. God is only our Salvation from this misery from these hate monger organizations..

So far there were only the Thackeray`s, the unelected presidents of MES & MNS who are a pain in the neck for the whole of India, and now to learn that Praveen Kumar Shetty, president, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, wants to follow in their footsteps is just unbeliveable. Since no sense prevails with the leaders and the followers who want fight for languages, its good leave them alone to fight and destroy themselves.

I would like to draw attenttion of KRV and its office bearers, not to make any provocative statements, by demanding the arrest of Balasaheb, as this will not only boomrang and also will have lot of repurcussions. I would also like to ask whether such a damand was made when there were communal attacks on minorities and especially the catholic community of Mangalore and Karnataka? We should respect the language and culture of our Marathis and Kannadigas and leave peacefully in our place of work whether it is in karnataka or maharashtra. Please do not rake up issues which will effec and disturb peace loving kannadigas and maharashtrians in both states. Let us leave it to the union govt.and the supreme court, who are seized of the matter and settle all outstanding issues with both states.

This is nothing but cheap publicity and igniting fire and pouring oil in the fire. Just take into consideration how many Manglaoreans have settled in Bombay and running prosperous business. Please do not forget we all as Indians as one family. Don’t politicize the issues for your personal goal and publicity as the actual results will be big zero. If you are so serious of conducting protest, please go to Dadar, Bombay and do the strike. Then we will appreciate your courage and seriousness.
