Maharashtra to start portal for teacher recruitment soon

Mumbai, Feb 12 (TOI): The state government will soon begin its common teacher appointment portal for government, aided and unaided schools. The state had announced the launch of the Pavitra portal last year to curb malpractices in teacher appointments.

According to a recent government resolution (GR), in addition to passing the state’s Teacher Eligibility Test, teachers will now have to appear for interviews for appointment to private schools. When a school has a vacancy, it will have to advertise it and aspirants will have to apply through the common portal. Based on test scores, the portal would allot 10 teachers for a single position at the school. The school management can conduct interviews of the shortlisted candidates before making a selection. The school will have to document the process and submit it to the education department.

The department also issued a GR outlining the norms and qualifications required for the appointments. Schools failing to make appointments through the portal will not receive salary and non-salary grant, said the GR.
