Mangalore, Feb 12: Director general and inspector general of  Karnataka Ajai Kumar Singh on Tuesday February 10, flagged off four traffic interceptor vehicles for being used in Belgaum, Gulbarga, Bellary and Mangalore, from Bangalore. Other district headquarters in the state will also be getting interceptor vehicles in course of time.

These vehicles are equipped with rotatable camera, speed gun system, cordles remote control with a surveillance camera on the top of the vehicle. The camera operates even at nights and can capture clear  pictures of objects from distances as far as 1.5 kms and record data connected with them. The surveillance cameras can preserve 30 days of recorded footage.

The advanced breath alcohol analyzer in the vehicle can test and instantly record the alcohol contents in the breath of people and print out informtion immediately. Singh said at the time of release of vehicles, that the advantage of the interceptor vehicle is that all the data captured are recorded immediately and the print out of the information is an indisputable proof.

One hopes that Mangalore, where chaos reigns supreme at several traffic junctions, will enormously benefit from the interceptor vehicles, particularly in regulating the way in which the bus drivers move their vehicles in city roads.
