Bangalore, Mar 9: The Rotary Bangalore Down Town’s ‘Women in Vocation Awards 2009’ function was held on Sunday March 8 on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, at 6:30 pm at the Rotary House of Learning, Promenade Road in the city, in the presence of Ann Shylaja Bhat, past president of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India. So far, this club has handed over awards to over 55 women from various fields in the course of its 19 years of existence.
The achievements of the following women were recognized and awards were handed over to them at the function:
(1) Swati Bhogle, an ASHDEN awardee is working in the area of sustainable energy. She is also the chief executive officer and secretary of M/s Technology Informatics Design Endeavour (TIDE). She was the chief guest of the day.
(2) Savita Sharma, a painter specializing in graveyards painting.
(3) Pushpa P Bopaiah, an Equine therapist and founder of ‘Healing Horses’, a centre for therapeutic riding for children with disabilities.
Rtn Devadasan Kizhapat, secretary, made announcements and extended pleasantries. Rtn Jyoti compeered the programme in a befitting manner. The function was well attended and the gathering enthusiastically cheered the awardees, who have distinctly excelled in their own vocations. The function concluded with the proposing of vote of thanks by Rtn P P Revati and singing of the national anthem.
