They had booked tickets by a 11 pm flight to Chennai on Sunday. Dey and family had come to the airport in their car to drop them. Because of heavy rain coupled with strong wind, the flight was rescheduled to 6.30 am the next day. Therefore, the family was returning home.

When the car was moving on Kogilu cross flyover, the ambulance driven by Channabassappa moving towards the airport collided with the car. The police had to use crane to separate the vehicles. By then all occupants of the car had died, the police said.

It is said that the ambulance driver was recklessly driving the vehicle. He was trying to overtake a truck when he lost control over the vehicle. The ambulance then jumped over the divider, moved erratically, and hit the car coming from the opposite direction.
