Beltangady: Charmadi Ghat Road will be ready for Traffic by June: Palemar

Beltangady, May 14: The road works on the badly damaged Charmadi Ghat road are being conducted by using modern technology. Although the contractors have been given more time to finish the works, taking into account the interest of the road users, the road will be opened for traffic in June itself, said district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar. He was speaking to reporters after visiting the spot of the road works on Wednesday May 13.

The contractors have been adopting the grouted anchoring technology in laying the road. Under this technology, iron pipes are fixed by rigging the earth till the rock bed is found, to allow the ground water to flow away and iron chains are used while building side concrete walls. As building of wall by using stones is very costly, this method is not only economical but also durable, the minister said.  "The contractors are given time till November for completing the first phase and till February next for completing the second phase. As the road users have been suffering after the road was closed to traffic about three months ago, the contractors have been urged to finish works at the earliest," he added.

In June, light vehicles will be allowed to ply on the road and balance works till continue. He also said, that asphalting, drains etc., for the Ghat roads will be taken up in phases, as development works have been stranded since some time due to the election code of conduct.

The minister was accompanied by the assistant executive engineer of PWD R K Bendre, assistant engineer Sanne Gowda and several others.
