Mangalore: Rain Leaves behind a Trail of Destruction

Mangalore, May 19: The rain coupled with wind, thunder and lightning that lashed most parts of the twin-districts on the night of Sunday, has left behind a trail of destruction. Over 70 houses in the two districts suffered damages.

The mobile tower put up by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd at Dharmastala and the telephone exchange there suffered losses due to lightning on Sunday night. WLL phone service and board were damaged and the company was able to resume mobile services by the afternoon of Monday May 18. The repairs of the damaged parts that had been initiated on Sunday itself, continued till late evening on Monday. The loss in this incident is estimated at Rs 1.5 lac.

The electricity supply systems of several homes were damaged due to lightning while many villages plunged into darkness. Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district received highest rain fall while Karkala and Byndoor in Udupi district too have reported copious rainfall.
