Kuwait charts highest temperature in world, religious authorities implement 15 minute Friday sermons

Kuwait, Jul 3: The religious authorities here, have set duration on Friday sermons, stating that they should not exceed 15 minutes, given the exposure to severe heat. Sometimes, due to mosque being overcrowded, worshipers in residential areas carry out their prayers outside in open space. The Ministry of Awqaf is known to have released the instructions for this time limit while also ordering a 10-minute limit for the mosques located near the border areas, where temperatures are higher.

The heatwave in Kuwait is said to continue for some more time according to reports. Meteorologists have already predicted the temperature to reach over 68 degrees by next month and already the city is reported to record the world’s highest temperature for the month, hitting the mark at 52.2 degrees Celsius.

Due to global warming, major climatic imbalance can be observed which pose several affects and challenges. Heatwaves are being reported around few continents in the world which can be dangerous as heatstroke can even cause death in extreme cases.

In the past month, a man from Kuwait was reported dead after suffering a heatstroke. Although, medical personnel rushed him to hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The post-mortem report had established that overexposure to sun was the cause for his death.

Owing to rise in temperature, the government is looking forward to enforce a seasonal midday ban on outdoor work in the summer heat.
