Mixed opinion on Union Budget from Udupi

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD/HB)

Udupi, Jul 5: Few eminent personalities shared their view with Daijiworld on the 2019-20 budget that was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today in the Parliament.

The secretary of the CPI(M) Udupi district Balakrishna Shetty said, "this budget is not friendly for common man. The rise in fuel prices will automatically increase the price of many other commodities. Government spoke about supporting farmers with minimum support price and proposed to start co-operative societies but there is no clarity about its organization and other matters. "During elections BJP had said that they will implement Swaminathan report but that is yet to be implemented," he added.

Political thinker and Professor Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty was happy with the budget. He said "tax exemption for income upto 5 Lac is a very good move. This budget has given more importance to women entrepreneurs and increase in taxes for the rich class is a good move. Nirmala Sitharaman has reviewed the budget of 2018 which is a commendable effort and all the decisions that were announced today should be properly implemented,'' he added. Speaking about stopping the old tradition of carrying the budget files in a brief case, Shetty said that was an old British tradition and today's move by FM of carrying the files in a red cloth is a transition towards our own Indian culture.”

Bharathiya Kisan Sangh Udupi district Secretary Sathyanaran Udupa speaking about the Budget said “This budget concentrates on rebuilding the agriculture sector. It aims at attracting youth towards agriculture. Proposals for food processing industry and marketing of agri products is a good initiative. The budget aims at doubling the income of farmers in 2022 which is a visionary thing. Farmers are provided with necessary basic facilities,” he added.

District Congress spokesperson Bhaskar Rao Kediyur said, ''this is the budget that completely ignored the farmers without making any policy plans for agriculture and there was no support price announced for farmers. Middle class people will have more burden due to tax hike on petroleum, diesel, import and export commodities, and automobiles accessories. They showed more interest and stressed for private investment. There is no new scheme generating employment for youth. The most anticipated plan of starting up of Mangaluru railway division was not fulfilled. So the central budget is bitterer than sweet," he added.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat said “This is the first budget of second term of Modi government, which was presented by first woman finance minister of the country. It was guidelines to the development of nation and betterment of poor class. Rs 3,737 crores of special grant for animal husbandry have been announced for the coastal belt. This is a happy matter. Income Tax exemption for those who have less than Rs 5 lakhs income per annum is the biggest gift for middle class people. The budget is also aimed at increasing the income of farmers and providing infrastructure to rural development.” He also stressed empowerment of woman to be self employed by providing loan through Mudra scheme was a commendable move. This is a budget that will have great impact not only on the present but also for the future of India. I would like to congratulate Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman," he added.

District BJP president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said ''this budget is development oriented budget and it fulfilled the expectations of all classes of the society. It is an index for integrated national development.”

“In the budget, they have given priority on women empowerment by providing Rs 1 lakhs loan under Mudra scheme, Rs 5000 of OD facility under Jan Dhan scheme, fisheries, animal husbandry, encouragement for farmers, training for youths and employment generation and so on. Totally it may take us in developing path," he added.

JDS district president Yogish Shetty said, “this budget is like old wine in a new bottle. There is no new scheme proposed in the budget. One rupee has been increased on petrol and diesel. Nirmala Sitharaman is selected from Karnataka Rajya sabha, but the FM has not given special projects to Karnataka," he added.
