Mangaluru: National Handloom Day observed at Talipady Weaver Society Kinnigoli

Mangaluru, Aug 8: National Handloom Day on August 7 was celebrated with much pomp at Talipady Weaver Society Kinnigoli.

The event was organized by handloom and textile department of twin districts, weavers co-op societies of two districts and Kadike Trust Karkala.

Kinnigoli Panchayat president Philomena declared open the jatha which started from Nekara Soudha and went around Kinnigoli town. Students and staff of ADFT department, NRAM NITTE, weavers and supporters of handloom participated in the jatha. Five senior weavers from two districts, weavers who have come back to weaving and new weavers who started weaving after Udupi saree revival campaign were facilitated with fruit plants, handloom shawls and cash prize.

Shivashankar addl director, Handloom and textile department, president Anand Shettigar of Talipady weaver Society, Mamatha Rai president Kadike Trust and trustees, Dhanalakshmi and staff of Fashion Designing College NITTE, members and office bearers of weaving societies of two districts were present. After the jatha, students participated in the weaving demo.



Students from the department of fashion design technology of Nitte Polytechnic College entertained the audience through cultural programmes.
