Kundapur: Police department holds peace meeting on eve of festivals

Kundapur, Aug 10: “Police department came into existence to maintain law and order. The department works as people friendly at present. A beat system functions at present with a constable in each beat. Policemen are able to maintain peace by remaining friendly with people in the system. The department is keeping an eye on those who spoil peace and brings them on the right path,” said Kundapur DySP B P Dinesh Kumar. He was speaking after presiding over a peace meeting held in Kandlur.

“People belonging to all the religions should unite and celebrate Kandlur Mari fair and Bakrid festival according to their religions. Police department will take stern action against those who spoil peace. All should live in harmony. CCTV cameras should be installed in all temples, mosques and churches. A case of cattle theft in Neralakatte the other day is registered. The theft is captured in CC camera. Such things should not happen after this,” he said.

Udupi district police, Kundapur rural police station had held the peace meeting at Bhavani Sanjeevi Shetty auditorium, Kandlur in view of Kandlur Mari fair and Bakrid festival.

Kandlur gram panchayat president Gauri Sriyan, Kandlur Juma Masjid’s Maulana Ilyas Nadvi, Basrur church priest Fr Charles Noronha, Gulwadi Juma Masjid president Cheriabba Saheb, Kandlur Kannika Parameshwari temple’s Sridhar Jogi were present.

Kundapur rural police station inspector Sridhar Nayak gave an introductory address. Head constable Madhusoodan compered the programme, welcomed and rendered the vote of thanks.
