Kasargod: Money doubling racket - Police arrest six

Kasargod, Aug 12: Mavelikkara police have arrested six persons including a woman in connection with the fleecing of three Kasargod residents by inviting them to Mevallikara after promising them to double their investment. The gang had succeeded in tricking the trio into parting with Rs 12 lac after promising them to return to them Rs 25 lac.

The arrested persons happen to be D Radhakrishnan alias Babu (62) from Mavelikkara Kuruttikkad Vallikkal East Vayalatt, Ratnavati (48) from Chertale Varanad Kunnath Padmalayam, Benny Chacko (50) from Kottayam Elamkuilam Vanjimoole Velambasseriyal, Vinod (30) from Kannur Bharanikavu Vadakai Churum Kattarayil, K P Sharif (36) from Kannur Idikkur Kalyot Safora Manzil, and Shihab Ambilakandi (38) from Kannur Talassery Kurichchiyil Teerthapoyil. The police say they have information that two more are involved with this racket. The amount of Rs 12 lac which the gang had succeeded in siphoning off, has been recovered.

The gang reportedly cheated Abdul Jaffer (36) from Kasargod Tekkil Bendichchal Vayyal, his neighour, Abdul Rahman Taufir (23), and his friend, Sulaiman (46) from Pattambi. The complainants said that they were made by the gang to believe that their investment of Rs 12 lac would grow into Rs 25 lac within a short period.
