Mangalore: Mobile Banking by End of June - Vijaya Bank ED


Mangalore, Jun 20 (DHNS): Vijaya Bank has set a target to make a total annual turn over of Rs 1,10,000 crore during this financial year. 

 Addressing a news conference on Friday, Bank Executive Director S C Kalia said that bank recorded a total turnover of Rs 90,410 crore during 2008-09, which includes Rs 54,535 deposits and Rs 35,875 advances. The bank witnessed operating profit of Rs 899 crore and net profit of Rs 262.48 crore.

He said that the bank has performed satisfactorily amidst difficult situations and though the bank faced loss of Rs 71 crore during first quarterly of the fiscal year, it made up with a profit of 80 crore during the second quarterly.

He informed that bank has achieved 100 per cent core banking by March 31, 2009 and it will introduce mobile banking by end of June 2009 to help the customers avail facilities of balance enquiry, payments etc over the mobile. On-line trading facilities will also be provided, he said. The bank has 1,101 branches across the country, which will be increased to 1,201. Total number of ATMs will be increased to 500 from 364.

As far as the district is concerned, he said that there are 70 branches catering two districts namely the undivided Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts, of which 57 branches are located in DK and 13 are in Kasargod. Three new branches will be opened in the region with two branches in DK district and one in Kasargod.

NRI deposits

Speaking about the plans of the bank to tap the potential NRI customers, he said that, bank has started ‘NRI-5000’ plan to reach out to NRIs. At present, the bank has NRI deposits of Rs 1,250 crore, which they intend to increase by four folds through the plan and hope to make deposit of about Rs 5,000 cr by 2010. He said that global meltdown has however helped the banks in terms of NRI deposits as it is visible that NRI deposits have been seeing healthy trend.
