Vancouver, June 22 (IANS): In a deadly shootout at an Indian home in Surrey near here Sunday, a man and a boy were killed and a woman critically injured.

Police have not identified the victims. The boy is said to be aged between 11 and 14.

The family had just moved to Canada from India and settled in the Indian-dominated city of Surrey.

Indians, mostly Punjabis, account for more than 25 percent of Surrey's population of about 400,000.

One of the fastest growing cities in the country because of the influx of new immigrants, Surrey is also fast gaining the reputation of the crime capital of Canada.

Police said they arrested a man inside the home.

"He (the man) was at the home, and was promptly arrested by Surrey RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police," a police spokesman said.

He said, "We are being abundantly cautious and not implicating that male as being responsible."

Though police didn't identify him, the local media said he is the injured woman's uncle.

The critically injured woman, who was airlifted to hospital, lived with her two sons, aged 14 and 18, in the home.

Her husband is reportedly still in Punjab in India.

Police said they responded to a call 11 a.m. Sunday and rushed to the home to find the two bodies.

They said the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.
