New Delhi, Jun 24: Former law minister H.R. Bhardwaj was Wednesday appointed governor of Karnataka, replacing incumbent Rameshwar Thakur who has been transferred to Madhya Pradesh, officials said here.

The veteran Congress leader was dropped from the Manmohan Singh cabinet after the Congress-led new United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was formed.

Thakur, who is currently the Karnataka governor, has been transferred and appointed the governor of Madhya Pradesh for the remainder of his term, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement announced.

Currently, Balram Jhakar is the governor of Madhya Pradesh.

President Pratibha Patil also gave her nod to the appointment of Devanand Konwar, former minister of Assam, as the governor of Bihar. Konwar replaces R.L. Bhatia.

Mr. Bharadwaj allegedly threatened Sanjay Dutt during recent elections against contesting in Lucknow. His last alleged act was influencing CBI to charges against Tytler and Quotrochi. Really an ideal man for a constitutional post!

Although the role of a Governor is minimal when elected government is in power, being an expert of Indian constitution he can guide the government in the right path. His role might come into effect if the elected government indulge in corrupt and unconstitutional practices. Hope this government works in developing the basic amenities for which we pay the taxes rather than pleasing certain sections.

We have to check whether it will be jolt for State or for this ex-law minister himself, Mr.Shahnawaz. In most past cases the post has been used as puppet by the ruling central govt. for their selfish motive. Hope this do not continue here. The State has been doing good progressive work, & hope this person will do a constructive work.

Veteran law expert Bharawaj is back in action in karnataka. Understand he is an expert on Constitution of India and even its lapses and weak links. Thakur was mild, no nonsense and reserved. Wish him a happy stay in K''taka....
