Mangalore: Continuing Physiotheraphy Education Programme Inaugurated

Mangalore, Jul 13:  A five-day Continuing Physiotheraphy Education(CPE)  Programme is being held at Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy in the city fromJuly 13 to 19, 2009.  The inaugural of the programme was conducted in the college premises on Monday, July 13.

The programme  was inaugurated by Dr M Ramgopal Shetty, chairman, Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust Colleges.

Also present on the occasion were the eminent resource persons for the first day of the programme viz., Dr. Dinesh Kadam, plastic, micro vascular and cosmetic surgeon, consultant and head of plastic surgery, A J Hospital and Research Centre and Dr  Arul Dhanraj, MPT (hand rehab), principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy in the city.



Dr Kadam took the first session of the day and enlightened the students on the topic of ‘tendon injuries of the hands’ and spoke at length on the causes, complications as well as surgical management of tendon injuries. He explained about different types of injuries and their management, using audio-visual aids illustrating real life cases that he has dealt with.

Dr Arul Dhanraj took the second session and spoke about the ‘rehabiliatation following hand injuries’ and the importance of physiotherapy in reviving hand function as well as re-education of limb.

The session was attended by more than 200 student delegates from physiotherapy colleges across the city and the programme proved to be extremely beneficial. There was  also an interactive session later, between the students and the resource persons, to answer queries.

This CPE Programme will continue for five days. On each day, a specific topic related to physiotherapy will be taken up.

Other topics of study being covered include essentials of sensory integration in physiotherapy, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and neuro-developmental therapy in cerebral palsy. All the topics are being taught by pioneers in their respective fields of health care.

The aim of the CPE programme is to enrich the knowledge of students, provide a platform for discussions and update them about the latest trends and methodologies being adopted in the physiotherapy profession in keeping with the global standards.
