Bantwal, Jul 15:
The work on the service road beside the four-lane road construction work underway at B C Road is going on at a snail’s pace and seems unlikely to be completed even in a month’s time.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Ponnuraj, at the end of June, had issued orders banning traffic on B C Road with the view of completing the flyover.  Meanwhile, the people’s representatives, in the absence of Ponnuraj who is away on training, convinced the additional deputy commissioner Prabhakar Sharma to lay the service road to facilitate plying of light vehicular traffic on B C Road.

Prabhakar Sharma also advised the contractor, Ircon International, to complete the service road within a week.  Accordingly, work began on the service road and was stalled due to the incessant rains.  The completed stretch of road is awaiting asphalting since two weeks.

The Mangalore–Bangalore national highway 48 passing through B C Road is a hazard to traffic due to the numerous large potholes. The completion of the service road will help curb traffic bottlenecks.
