Bangalore: Hope for Power Sector: Reservoirs record Increased Levels, Power Supply Hit

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 17: The inflow to Linganamakki Reservoir in Shimoga district has recorded considerable increase on Thursday July 16. The reservoir has gained five feet within a day.

As on Thursday morning, inflow into the reservoir stood at 1, 13, 638 cusecs. By evening, the water level reached 1789 as against the maximum level of 1,819 ft. Bhadra reservoir that has been receiving the inflow of 53,000 cusecs, has reached 160.6 feet.  KRS dam in Mysore that had almost gone dry, registered a level of 102 ft as against the maximum of 124.80 ft. Gerusoppa reservoir is just two metres short of reaching the maximum level.

While the swelling reservoir levels indicate that the hydel generation sector has brightened up, the power supply situation leaves much to be desired. Most of the areas, particularly Kodagu district and rural belts of other districts, are reeling under unscheduled power cuts. The power supply companies attribute this phenomenon to the rainy season blues. The situation has become so worse that branches of several banks in rural belts including Suntikoppa in Kodagu district have not been able to function, as power supply remains shut for several days continuously.
