Mumbai: Man stabs conductor on moving bus over Rs 10 change

Mumbai, Sep 24: In a bizarre incident, a 34-year-old man stabbed a bus conductor on a moving bus after argument broke out between them over Rs 10 change. Panvel police arrested the accused Tanmay Kavthekar, for allegedly stabbing an NMMT (Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport) bus conductor on Monday morning at 10.30 am on Old Panvel highway.

As reported in TOI, Kavthekar asked the conductor for a Rs 10 note instead of a Rs 10 coin and when the conductor declined his request, the accused stabbed him twice. The conductor identified as Rameshwar Ippar (25), is reportedly out of danger and is admitted into a local hospital in Navi Mumbai.

Police said that Khavthekar was traveling in an NMMT bus and going to Panvel from Kopar Khairane and gave Rs 20 to the conductor for purchase of a ticket. The bus ticket costs Rs 10 and the conductor returned a Rs 10 coin to Khavthekar, who refused to take Rs 10 coin from the conductor and demanded Rs 10 note. Later, after a verbal argument between the two, Khavthekar removed a small knife from his pocket and slashed the conductor on his neck and chest. The locals nabbed Khavthekar and handed over him to the police.

Tanmay Kavthekar, a resident of Panvel reportedly is a serial offender and was previously arrested for assaulting two bus conductors over change issue. He has four different assault cases under his name and was allegedly drunk when the incident occurred.
